Megan {Senior Shoot}

I love doing shoots for this family!
This girl was a trooper even though she got a mosquito bite on her forehead at the beginning of the shoot, and the crazy sprinklers were on the whole time!

I LOVE when my clients bring a piece of their lives to the shoot. For Megan, she brought her cello which added so much to the shoot. It was awesome!

She is just stunning, and I wish her luck in her senior year of highschool

Here is a teaser from her shoot!

Amanda {Mini Session}

Mom said Amanda hasn't had a good picture taken in a while so we added a little mini session for her while doing her sister's senior session.

This girl is so cute, and she knew just what sassy poses to do.

It was a fun little addition to her sister's senior shoot!
We also even snuck a few sister shots in there :)

here's a few from the mini session!

Courage: And Trying Something New

This is different than what is normally seen on this blog.

I've debated for a while on whether to start making posts like this, and I've decided

Why not?

So here it goes!

Lately I feel as if i've been stuck in a rut when it comes to my photography.
I've been taking portraits for others and getting paid which is nice and I really do enjoy it, but lately I have had this overwhelming desire to do more.

I've been researching and studying some of the photographers that inspire me.
As I look at their images I can't help but think,
Man, I wish I were that good...

I noticed that they take a lot of self portraits that really mean something to them.
Each one is full of personal meaning and emotion.
And as I look at those I think,
That is exactly what I wish I could do...

I so badly want to create images that have personal meaning to me.

I am very much an enthusiast of Art History, and as I study various artists who are able to achieve that meaning and emotion in their artwork I keep thinking how I wish I could do that in my images.
But is it even possible in photography?
Is it even possible for me at the skill level I am at?

I decided that it won't be possible if I continue to sit on my lazy butt looking, and drooling over artists who can achieve the things I wish I could.
I have to actually try

Even if I fail

It takes courage to be an artist with everyone having an opinion about your work whether good or bad.
It takes courage to try something new regardless of whether you are an artist or not

But hey,
You can't get better unless you actually put forth the effort and try.

So here is my first attempt at creating an image that has personal meaning to me.
No matter how weak or bad it may be I did try, and it felt good to do something from inspiration.

"Nightmares"

This self portrait has been something in my mind for about a week now.
It didn't turn out just as I wanted, but I am still happy with the result.

For about the past week I have been getting about 3 hours of sleep a night mainly because I've been having multiple terrifying nightmares a night.

The artist William Turner once "painted his way" out of a nightmare he was having and thus created his beautiful masterpiece Death on a Pale Horse

We'll see if I was able to do the same while making this image tonight when I go to bed, but regardless it felt so good to step out on a limb and try something new based on inspiration

Stout {Family Shoot}

Oh man.
What to say about this shoot...

There were snakes and bees
there were giggles and tears

Probably one of the more entertaining shoots let me tell ya!

These guys are so much fun and I found myself cracking up frequently as I edited

(In a good way)

:)

Here are a few from their shoot!!
